April Ross
April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball athletes who earned medals in multiple Olympics. She will be competing in Tokyo for her 3rd Olympic medal alongside Alix Klineman who is a first-time Olympian. Ross is hoping to secure an Olympic first gold medal but she is also aiming to win more. At 39, this could be her final opportunity to claim the Olympic gold. Still confident nevertheless. Ross on NBC Boston, said that when the team performs consistently or well they can earn a gold. In addition, I'm planning put my faith in a touch of good luck. Ross was born August 22nd, 1982 at Costa Mesa California. She lived there with her family. Ross was a competitive athlete in a variety of activities while at Newport Harbor High School. She was a basketball player and also ran track in addition to her indoor volleyball achievements as a prep athlete. Although she was a pro in indoor volleyball, it was clear that her performance was above average. According to her bio her high school days, she played volleyball as an outside setter (middle blocker) as well as a setting (outside blocker). The results of her efforts were acknowledged when she was named 1999 Gatorade's National Circle of Champions players of the year. In 2000, she received an Orange County Athlete of the of the year for volleyball. Although Ross Klineman and Ross are in the spotlight since the year 2017, Klineman was already a big-time player on the beach scene long before their pairing. In fact, she's won numerous events, and one was won by an iconic volleyball player. In the period 2007 to 2013 she teamed together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently played the role of Klineman's coach. Kessy and Ross were a formidable force in the international arena, taking home a 2009 world title with each other. They were awarded a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team as well as Kerri Jennings won the gold. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she retired. The pair won bronze in the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a player for the Trojans at USC during her college years after she graduated the high school she attended. Ross's Trojans experience was impressive. She was a All-American as well as Pac-10 Freshman of the Year in 2000 as a young freshman. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. In her sophomore season she suffered a devastating personal loss and still managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. Over the course of her two final years with the Trojans they helped win consecutive championships. Individually she had cemented her place as a legend winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the highest ranked female volleyball player. Ross was a major in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the chance to watch her daughter grow into a beach volleyball superstar. When Ross was in her sophomore year at USC her mother passed away from breast cancer. She still holds her mother dear. Margie at the beach as well as in her everyday life, is still a source of inspiration for her.
